Why the numbers differ

  • The Points Guy blends search data from Points Path and Gondola with staff judgment.
  • Upgraded Points uses editorial judgment, including what points cost to buy and how easy awards are to find.
  • One Mile at a Time says it values points conservatively, on purpose, so people use them instead of hoarding.
  • NerdWallet takes the median of real cash and award prices. Mostly economy flights and standard hotel rooms, so premium cabin sweet spots do not lift the number.

Reading the table

  • Bank points (Amex, Chase, Citi, Capital One, Bilt, Wells Fargo) are worth more because you can send them to many partners.
  • Hotel points are not comparable one to one. A Hilton point is worth less because you need many more of them per night.
  • A valuation is a bar to clear, not a cash price. Divide the cash cost of a trip by the points it costs to see your real rate.

Notes on the data

  • The Points Guy lists one Avios value, so it shows on all four Avios rows (marked +).
  • NerdWallet bases bank point values on the best transfer partner. Chase and Citi vary by card, shown in the marked cells.
  • Figures pulled October 2, 2026. Programs change values often, so recheck before a big transfer.
